Buying electronics & batteries on special
Batteries, chargers, globes and small electrical accessories appear at half price fairly often, and batteries are the standout: they are expensive per unit, they are used constantly, and modern alkaline cells hold their charge for years in storage.
Check the printed use-by date on the pack — batteries are sometimes discounted because the batch is aging, and a cell stored past its date holds noticeably less charge. Rechargeables are a different calculation: the up-front cost is higher, but if you get through more than a couple of packs a year they cost less over time, and a half price promotion is the right moment to make the switch.
