Batteries, chargers, globes and small electrical accessories appear at half price fairly often, and batteries are the standout: they are expensive per unit, they are used constantly, and modern alkaline cells hold their charge for years in storage.
Check the printed use-by date on the pack — batteries are sometimes discounted because the batch is aging, and a cell stored past its date holds noticeably less charge.
