Buying cleaning & household on special
Laundry powder and liquid, dishwashing tablets, surface sprays, bin liners and paper goods rotate through half price promotions on a fairly predictable cycle. These are among the safest things to buy in quantity: nothing here spoils, and the packs are designed to sit in a cupboard. The only real limit is storage space.
The trap in this category is pack size. A half price 30-tablet dishwasher pack can still work out dearer per wash than a full price 60-pack, because the larger pack carries a permanently lower unit rate. Australian supermarkets are required to show a unit price on the shelf label — use it. Concentrated laundry liquids are the other thing to watch, since two bottles of the same volume can be rated for very different numbers of washes.
